What is MeLa Media Lab?

The MeLa Media Lab is a structure of the Iuav University of Venice, founded in 2008 by and , which deals with training, research, and development in the field of representation and communication of architecture and design, cultural products, visual and performing arts. The MeLa Media Lab represents a complex network scenario built in years of relationships, a team working with vision and passion for projects that can break the rules and embrace the spirit of research and experimentation.

Who we are?

We cross and relate different professional skills from universities and local companies on the themes of representation and interaction in research fields, administration of artistic and cultural heritage, and production in design and architecture.


The MeLa Media Lab comprises a collective of professionals from universities, research centers, design studios, and companies.

Different professionals, knowledge, and experiences converge in the MeLa collective: experts and scholars of representation and communication; IT; specialists in the field of human-machine interaction and interactive artifacts; art and architecture historians; performance historians; semiologists; artists; web designers; product and communication designer; economists; directors; perception psychologists; philosophers of science.

The research objectives conducted in the laboratory are the study and experimentation of systems and methods for the production and representation of artifacts in the fields of visual arts, theatre, design, and architecture on a local and territorial scale.

• creation of explorable 3D models, digital animations, videos, rendered images and adv photographs, multimedia and editorial works, websites, multimedia and interactive installations for shows and exhibitions

• processing and treatment of digital media

• coordination, preparation, and management of exhibitions

research, experimentation, and development of new forms of representation, communication, interaction

research in the field of multisensory interaction and new interfaces applied to the communication of architecture and design, cultural products, and visual and performing arts

• design of cognitive, perceptive, and emotional experience: design methods oriented towards experimental and experiential verification

• organization of seminars, training courses, and masters aimed at new professions, post-graduate training, and updating of public administration personnel

MeLa Research

At MeLa Research we conduct research, experimentation, and development projects in multisensory interaction for architecture, design, cultural products, and the performing arts.

We work closely with artists, performers, dancers, curators, directors, critics, and researchers from visual arts, expanded cinema, new documentaries, performing arts, graphics, architecture, curating, and criticism.

At MeLa Learning we design professional training courses, university masters, and e-learning projects for public and private institutions.

We have selected the best professionals as teachers to offer the participants a unique and innovative teaching experience. We have been collaborating for years with companies in the sector, building high-profile training projects in synergy with them and always in line with market demands. We connect our students with an extensive network of companies.

At MeLa Factory we have brought together a collective of professionals who work internationally in design, photography, interactivity, and computer graphics.

We offer companies top-level services for creating interior design projects, product design, web development, interactive applications, images for advertising and catalog campaigns, corporate identity, and editorial graphics.
